Crisis between Colombia and Argentina! All diplomats to be expelled

In a statement from the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was stated that Javier Milei used "unacceptable" language regarding President Petro, and it was announced that all Argentine diplomats would be expelled.

The statement recalled that President Petro was democratically elected as a result of the "free will" of the Colombian people, and included the expression: "The Argentine President's remarks have not only damaged the trust of our nation but also the honor of the democratically elected President Petro."

In an interview with CNN, Milei had used the words, "You can't expect much from someone who was a murderous terrorist."

According to reports in the local press, Colombia will convey the Foreign Ministry's expulsion decision to the Argentine Embassy through diplomatic channels.

TENSION DATES BACK MONTHS

During his election campaign in his country, Argentine President Milei's harsh remarks toward "socialist and communist" politicians were compared by Petro to "Hitler's words."

Following Milei's victory in the second round of the presidential election on November 19, 2023, Petro issued a statement describing the result as "sad."

Petro's comparison of Milei to Argentina's former dictator Jorge Videla and Chile's former military dictator Augusto Pinochet also led to tension between the two.

Colombia had recalled its Ambassador to Buenos Aires for "consultations" on January 27, following Argentine President Milei's remarks calling President Petro a "murderous communist who is sinking Colombia."
