Critical nuclear meeting in Istanbul... Iran and E3 countries to come together!

According to a report by the Tehran-based news site 'Irannuances', Iran and the E3—the European parties to the 2015 nuclear deal—will meet in Istanbul on May 16 to hold consultations regarding Iran's nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions.

It was reported that the meeting will be conducted by deputy ministers and senior diplomats.

While the nuclear negotiation process between Iran and the US, mediated by Oman, continues, the parties have stated that the talks have been positive. In these discussions, Iran expresses its readiness to restrict its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of unilateral US sanctions. European countries are not involved in these negotiations.

A meeting between the E3 and Iran had been planned for May 2 in Rome, but it was canceled following the postponement of the negotiations between the US and Iran.

Iran is concerned that European countries might trigger the so-called 'snapback mechanism,' a provision that could lead to the reinstatement of United Nations (UN) sanctions that were lifted under the 2015 nuclear deal. The term for the mechanism in question expires on October 18. It is anticipated that if a solution regarding Iran's nuclear program cannot be reached, European countries could activate the mechanism before this date.

In an article published in the French newspaper Le Point on May 11, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi noted that there would be consequences to the 'misuse of the snapback mechanism,' stating, "This would not only mean the end of Europe's role in the agreement, but could also lead to an escalation of tension that could become irreversible."

Araghchi had called on European countries to hold nuclear talks with Iran.
