Cuba and Venezuela condemn US and UK attacks on Yemen

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, in a statement on his social media account X, stated: "We condemn the military attacks by the US and its NATO allies in Yemen, which violate international law. Such actions encourage genocide in Gaza. We reiterate our call for a ceasefire in Palestinian territories."

The Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs also stated in a release on its website: "As Venezuela, we condemn the attacks carried out by the US, the UK, and their allies against Yemen. We categorically reject these illegal bombings, which violate international law and only lead to further instability in the region."

WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE RED SEA?

Recently, following the actions of the Houthis in Yemen against commercial vessels in response to Israel's attacks on Gaza, numerous shipping companies decided to suspend their voyages in the Red Sea.

The Pentagon announced on December 6, 2023, that it was in talks to establish an international "Maritime Task Force" against attacks by Houthi forces in Yemen on commercial ships in the Red Sea, and on December 18, 2023, it announced the creation of a multinational mission called "Operation Prosperity Guardian."

While the Houthi attacks endanger passage through the Suez Canal—which connects the Mediterranean to the Red Sea, offers the shortest route between Europe and Asia, and accounts for approximately 12 percent of global trade—the attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea and the successive decisions made by companies have raised concerns that a new "supply chain crisis" could begin in the global economy.
