Cyberattack on EU's official website
The European Commission has announced that a cyberattack was carried out against the EU's official website, "Europa.eu." It was stated that some data was stolen as a result of the attack.
In a written statement from the Commission, it was stated that a cyberattack was carried out on the EU's official website, "Europa.eu," on March 24. The statement noted that immediate measures were taken to bring the attack under control, but according to the initial findings of the ongoing investigation, some data was stolen as a result of the cyberattack.
The statement, which conveyed that EU institutions that may have been affected by the attack have been informed, emphasized that the European Commission's internal systems were not affected by the attack.
The statement indicated that the European Commission will continue to take all necessary measures for the security of its internal systems and data, adding, "As Europe faces cyber and hybrid attacks that constantly target essential services and democratic institutions, the Commission is actively working to increase the EU's cybersecurity resilience."
The European Commission's mobile infrastructure was also subjected to a cyberattack on January 30. The Commission had announced that the infrastructure was cleared within 9 hours, but that the names and mobile phone numbers of some personnel may have been accessed as a result of the attack.
