Russia's Orenburg region was hit by heavy rainfall, and a section of the dam on the Ural River passing through the city of Orsk collapsed in the evening hours.

Water levels rose up to 4 meters in areas affected by the resulting flood. According to official statements, 4,258 homes and 10,987 residents were affected by the flood, more than 2,400 homes were submerged, and 4,208 people were evacuated.

As a result of the flood, which affected 31 locations in the region, 47 bridges and 106 roads were closed to traffic, and power outages occurred in 12 settlements. According to information cited by Russian media from Orenburg emergency officials, the bodies of 3 people were recovered in the region. The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations announced that evacuation and repair work on the dam is ongoing.

A state of emergency had been declared in the Orenburg region on April 4.
