Danish politician Vistisen to Trump: Mr. President, let me put it in a language you can understand: get lost
Taking the floor during a European Parliament session discussing Europe's response to the US regarding Greenland, Danish politician Anders Vistisen used an expletive in English toward US President Donald Trump, saying, "Mr. President, let me put it in a language you can understand: get lost."
Danish Member of the European Parliament Anders Vistisen spoke at a session held today at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, titled "The territorial integrity and sovereignty of Greenland and Denmark: The necessity of a unified EU response against US blackmail attempts."
Starting his speech by directly addressing US President Donald Trump, the far-right politician Vistisen used an expletive in English toward the US President, saying, "Mr. President, let me put it in a language you can understand: get lost."
Vistisen's speech was interrupted by EP Vice-President Stefanuta
European Parliament Vice-President Nicolae Stefanuta immediately interrupted Vistisen, stating, "What you are doing is against the rules. Your feelings may be very strong, and there may be such an atmosphere in the chamber, but we have clear rules regarding the use of profanity and inappropriate language. I am sorry to have to interrupt you, but even if you have strong political feelings, this is unacceptable."
"The only language Trump understands is direct language"
Continuing his speech after the warning, Vistisen said, "The only language Trump understands is direct language. The only rejection Trump respects is a straightforward and clear rejection. However, the EU has taken a step back. Today, the High Representative said that talking about security threats around the Arctic is legitimate. Yet, this situation has arisen precisely because of the US administration, which reduced the number of troops from 15 thousand to only 150."
Emphasizing that while Trump threatens Europe with additional tariffs, Europe is making commitments to invest more in the US economy, Vistisen said, "If Europe does not clearly reject Trump before the military threat against Denmark is taken off the table and the idea of partitioning Denmark is abandoned, and if it does not understand that we must clearly say 'No' to him, we will have to talk about this issue over and over again. I hope Europe finally wakes up and gets out of this situation it is in."
