Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen attacked in central Copenhagen
It has been reported that Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was attacked in the capital, Copenhagen.
According to CNN, the Danish Prime Minister's Office announced that Prime Minister Frederiksen was attacked by an individual at Kultorvet Square in Copenhagen.
The statement noted that the attacker has been taken into custody.
The statement, which conveyed that Frederiksen was in shock due to the attack, did not provide information regarding how the suspect attacked or whether the Prime Minister sustained any injuries.
CONDEMNATION FROM THE EU
European Union (EU) officials condemned the attack on Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in the capital, Copenhagen, and shared messages of support.
In a post on X, European Council President Charles Michel expressed his outrage at the attack on Frederiksen, stating, "I strongly condemn this cowardly attack. All my thoughts are with you and your family, dear Mette. I hope you recover from this terrible attack as soon as possible."
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen noted in a social media post that she was "shocked" by the attack, stating, "I condemn this despicable act, which goes against everything we believe in and fight for in Europe. I wish you strength and courage, and I know you have plenty of both."
European Parliament (EP) President Roberta Metsola also stated in a post on her X account that the attack was "appalling," adding, "Violence has no place in politics. Stay strong, Mette!"
