Date set for general elections in Israel

A decision has been made to hold general elections in Israel on October 27. According to a report by the Yedioth Ahronot newspaper, Ofir Katz, Chairman of the Israeli Parliament's House Committee, announced during today's committee session that the Parliament will be dissolved on July 17 and the election calendar has been set for October 27.

The report noted that if the current government completes its term, it would be the first time since 1988 that elections have been held on schedule. Sagit Afik, the legal advisor to the Israeli Parliament, also indicated during the session that with the decision taken, the Parliament would complete its term and be dissolved in accordance with the projected calendar.

The government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu officially took office on December 29, 2022. During the term of the coalition, which is described as the most right-wing government in the country's history, political tension and social polarization in Israel have increased.

During this period, mass protests were held against the controversial judicial reform, and large-scale demonstrations were also organized with the demand for the release of Israeli hostages in the Gaza Strip.
