Death sentence overturned for Iranian rapper Toomaj Salehi, who supported Mahsa Amini protests

Iranian rapper Toomaj Salehi's lawyer announced on June 22 that the Iranian Supreme Court has overturned the death sentence against the popular rapper.

Salehi's lawyer, Amir Raisian, stated in a post on his X social media account that the death sentence handed down by the Isfahan Revolutionary Court against his client had been overturned by the 39th Branch of the Supreme Court.

Stating that the case will be retried, Raisian remarked, "As expected, the Supreme Court avoided an irreparable judicial error."

There has been no statement from Iranian judicial authorities regarding the matter yet.

DEATH SENTENCE FOR IRANIAN RAPPER TOOMAJ SALEHI

Iranian rapper Salehi, who was sentenced to death on charges of organizing protests that began in Iran in September 2022 and lasted for approximately 4 months, but whose sentence was later commuted to prison by the Supreme Court, had been sentenced to death.

Salehi's lawyer, Amir Raisian, reported in a statement on April 24 that the Isfahan Revolutionary Court had not implemented the Supreme Court's decision.

Rapper Salehi had participated in the protests that began in September 2022 following the death of Mahsa Amini in police custody and lasted for approximately 4 months, and had made statements supporting the demonstrations.
