Kenya is facing a worsening situation as floods caused by heavy rains, which have been ongoing since mid-March, continue to take their toll.

Kenyan Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura announced in a statement that 10 people have lost their lives in the last 24 hours due to the floods, bringing the total death toll to 179.

Spokesperson Mwaura stated that 15 of those who died were children. Mwaura reported that 125 people injured in the floods are receiving treatment at various health facilities across the country, and added that 90 people are currently missing.

The government spokesperson said that 195 thousand 11 people have been forced to leave their homes, and that shelters have been established for those displaced by the floods. Mwaura also emphasized that the government has accelerated its efforts with the Kenyan military, which is currently assisting in rescue and evacuation operations.
