Death toll from floods in Nepal rises to 691

The toll from the flood disaster that began on Wednesday in the Rasuwa region of northern Nepal is worsening. The number of people who lost their lives in the mud and water floods that spread to residential areas due to the overflowing of the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers has risen to 691.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) of Nepal announced that many residential areas were affected by the floods as a result of riverbeds overflowing. Following the disaster, search and rescue teams were deployed to the region.

Authorities reported that efforts are continuing uninterrupted to reach more than 3 thousand people believed to be trapped under piles of mud and debris. It was stated that the teams are carrying out operations with difficulty due to harsh weather conditions and rugged terrain.

While damage assessment and relief efforts continue in the regions affected by the floods, there is concern that the death toll may rise further.
