Death toll from Nepal floods rises: 1,344 confirmed dead

The death toll from the floods that occurred in the region of Nepal near the Chinese border has worsened. According to a statement from the Nepal Police, the number of people who have lost their lives has risen to 1,344 as of 05:00 local time.

Authorities reported that 4,898 people are still missing following the disaster. It was stated that 8,631 people who were stranded in various locations have been rescued. Search and rescue teams are continuing their operations in the region.

The flood occurred on Wednesday, August 26, when a glacier broke off from the Himalayas, causing the Bhotekoshi River to overflow. Floodwaters and debris flows affected the Rasuwa district in northern Nepal and neighboring areas.

With the overflowing of the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers, houses, bridges, roads, and infrastructure were swept away by floodwaters. It was reported that communication has been completely cut off with residents and tourists in some areas.

In China's Tibet Autonomous Region, which was also affected by the disaster, it had been announced that 21 people lost their lives and 541 people were recorded as missing due to floods and landslides.
