Death toll in Benin terror attack rises to 54
The number of people who lost their lives in a terror attack in the north of the West African country of Benin on April 17 has risen to 54.
Benin Government Spokesperson Wilfried Leandre Houngbedji announced that the number of soldiers who lost their lives in the terror attack carried out on April 17 in W National Park, located on the border with Burkina Faso and Niger, is 54.
The death toll had previously been announced as 8, and a terrorist organization linked to Al-Qaeda had claimed responsibility for the attack.
In Benin, 28 soldiers had also lost their lives in a terror attack at Point Triple on January 9.
Benin, which neighbors Burkina Faso and Niger, has been facing a terrorist threat since 2016.
