As the death toll in the Hong Kong fire disaster rises to 36, 279 people remain missing.
The death toll has risen in the fire that started in a 31-story skyscraper in a residential complex in the Tai Po district of northern Hong Kong and spread to 7 buildings. In a statement, Hong Kong leader John Lee announced that the death toll from the fire disaster has risen to 36, adding that 279 people are still unaccounted for.
Lee stated that the number of injured has also risen to 29 and that these individuals are receiving treatment in hospitals. Lee announced that the fire was brought under control as of midnight and that extinguishing efforts are ongoing.
Approximately 4 thousand people live in the 1,984 apartments located in the 8 skyscrapers of the complex called Wang Fuk Court.
