Death toll rises in Los Angeles wildfires

As the wildfires that began on January 7 in Los Angeles, California, continue to rage, the toll of the disaster has worsened.

According to a statement from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office, the death toll has risen to 27, with 17 people losing their lives in the Eaton fire and 10 in the Palisades fire.

The Los Angeles Fire Department announced that the Palisades fire, which has spread over more than 23,000 acres and destroyed 5,000 structures, is 22 percent contained, while the Eaton fire, which has reduced more than 14,000 acres to ash and destroyed 7,000 structures, is 55 percent contained.

It was reported that 82,000 people are under mandatory evacuation orders, while 90,000 people remain under evacuation warnings. Officials, stating that the fires have negatively affected the educational activities of 29,824 students, shared information that 33 schools have been closed and 10 school campuses have been damaged or destroyed.
