The death toll is rising in the vehicle attack on a Christmas market in Germany.

According to reports by German public broadcaster ARD's WDR and NDR television channels, citing security sources, the number of people who died in the attack that took place yesterday evening has risen to 4, and the number of injured is stated to be over 200.

In information shared by the German press regarding the attacker, it was reported that the 50-year-old perpetrator has been living in Germany since 2006, holds a permanent residence permit in the country, works as a physician in the city of Bernburg, and had made posts on his social media accounts "indicating that he was concerned about the rise of Islam in Germany."

The reports stated that the attacker drove a BMW-brand vehicle into the crowd for at least 400 meters at the Christmas market.

The perpetrator was taken into custody following the attack.

Following the incident, the Christmas market was closed, and people were asked to leave the city center.

The attack took place at the Christmas market set up next to the Magdeburg City Hall near the Elbe River.
