Death toll rises in Venezuela earthquake

Death toll rises in Venezuela earthquake

The death toll from the consecutive 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 has increased. Jorge Rodriguez, President of the National Assembly of Venezuela, announced on his social media account that the number of lives lost has risen to 4,490.

It was previously reported that 16,740 people were injured in the earthquakes. It was noted that 6,462 people have been rescued from under the rubble or from disaster zones through the efforts of local and international search and rescue teams.

It was stated that 17,907 people have been left homeless due to the earthquakes, which caused widespread destruction. The distribution of housing for those affected by the disaster is planned to begin next week.

Acting President of Venezuela Delcy Rodriguez is expected to allocate the first 200 homes to earthquake survivors in the near future.
