Death toll rises to 129 in Texas flood disaster
The number of people who lost their lives in the flood disaster in the US state of Texas has risen to 129. Search efforts are ongoing for 166 missing people.
The toll from the floods caused by heavy rains that struck the southern US state of Texas last week is worsening. Authorities announced that the number of those who lost their lives has risen to 129. In Kerr County, which was most affected by the floods, 103 deaths were recorded, including 36 children. It was stated that search efforts for 166 missing people are continuing.
US President Donald Trump visited Kerrville to assess the damage caused by the flood disaster. Trump and his wife, First Lady Melania Trump, met with rescue teams responding to the disaster.
According to a report by the US agency Associated Press, it has emerged that the Camp Mystic area, where 27 children and counselors who were camping before the flood disaster lost their lives, had been removed from the "Special Flood Hazard Area" status by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) following an objection by camp officials in order to "reduce insurance costs and be subject to less stringent regulations."
