An international arrest warrant has been issued for former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Serious charges are being brought against Bashar al-Assad in connection with the events that took place in Daraa, Syria, in 2011. Damascus Seventh Investigative Judge Tawfiq al-Ali stated that al-Assad is being held responsible for crimes including intentional homicide, death resulting from torture, and deprivation of liberty. In line with these charges, an arrest warrant in absentia has been issued for al-Assad.
Judge al-Ali announced that this decision will be pursued at an international level through Interpol and that a red notice will be issued.
