Defense system for the Russian and Belarusian border

As the war between Russia and Ukraine continues, Russian aggression has sparked security concerns in the Baltic states.

Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania have reached an agreement to construct new defense systems following the growing anxiety in the region.

DEFENSE SYSTEM TO DETER MILITARY THREATS

In a statement issued by the Estonian Ministry of Defense, it was reported that the ministers of the three Baltic countries, who met in the Latvian capital of Riga, agreed to build defense systems in the coming years to serve as a deterrent against military threats.

The statement emphasized that the systems would be built along the Russian and Belarusian borders, though no detailed information was shared.

Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur stated, "Russia's war in Ukraine has shown that, in addition to equipment, ammunition, and manpower, there is also a need for defense systems at the border."

Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds said in a statement following the signing of the agreement, "We will establish the Baltic Defense Line to defend NATO's Eastern flank and to restrict the freedom of movement of our enemies."
