It drew attention that Vance is visiting the region after US President Donald Trump kept the idea of Greenland joining the US on the agenda. According to the statement from the White House, Vance will be in Greenland on Thursday. US officials reported that the delegation will return to the country on March 29. Information was shared that Waltz and US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright would visit an American military base in Greenland. The White House has not yet made a statement on the matter.

According to The Guardian's report, Trump has opened the inclusion of Greenland into US territory for discussion since he took office on January 20. Trump stated that Greenland would be connected to the US in some way.

In an interview with Greenland's Sermitsiaq newspaper, Egede stated that the visit was intended only to send a message, and expressed the following:

''His presence here as Trump's closest advisor will be a sign for Americans to support Trump's mission.''

WHY DOES THE US WANT GREENLAND?

Experts pointed out that Greenland's strategic location and natural resources are important for the US. It was stated that the region, located on the shortest route between Europe and North America, plays a critical role in the US ballistic missile warning system.

The governments of Greenland and Denmark were opposed to the region being connected to the US. While it was stated that a party advocating for a gradual approach to independence won the general elections held on March 11, it was reported that the interim government has not made a statement on the subject.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, in a written statement regarding the news of the visit, used the phrase, 'We are handling this situation with seriousness.' Frederiksen emphasized that they want to cooperate with the US, but that this must be in accordance with the rules of sovereignty.

She stated that the US's contacts regarding Greenland would be carried out in close coordination with the Danish government and the future Greenlandic administration.
