Dendias' attempt to block missile sales to Turkey proves unsuccessful

Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias has failed to achieve the desired result in his diplomatic efforts to block the sale of Meteor missiles to Turkey. During his contacts in the UK and France, he was met with a proposal to include a clause stating that Turkey would not be able to use these missiles against NATO allies.

In his meetings in the UK, Dendias argued that Turkey poses a potential threat to Greece and that the sale of Meteor missiles should be blocked. However, British officials provided assurances that Turkey would not be able to use these missiles against NATO countries.

In France, Dendias' attempt to exert pressure through the Rafale fighter jets and Belharra frigates purchased from France also proved unsuccessful. French officials did not take any steps to halt the sale of the Meteor missiles.

Officials on Dendias' team stated that they were aware that the UK's economic relations with Turkey are stronger compared to those with Greece, and therefore they were not surprised by the results.

According to reports in the Greek media, it is stated that the diplomatic efforts Dendias has been conducting against Turkey have remained ineffective and that this situation has caused disappointment in Athens.

Dendias is now planning to establish closer contacts with Israel regarding weapons systems. In the meetings to be held with Israel in March, April, and May, it is expected that the focus will be on new weapons system acquisitions and training programs. It is also noted that Greek Land Forces personnel have begun receiving training on the PULS multiple launch rocket system in Israel.
