Directive from Iran regarding the Strait of Hormuz
The Supreme National Security Council of Iran has announced that no fees will be charged for 60 days to ships applying for passage through the Strait of Hormuz, as part of a memorandum of understanding signed between the US and Iran. It was also reported that the Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) has been instructed to prioritize and expedite the processing of passage applications to achieve the goals set out in the memorandum.
The Supreme National Security Council of Iran has announced that no fees will be charged for 60 days to ships wishing to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, as part of a memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran. According to the Iran-based Mehr News Agency, the statement issued by the council stated, "In accordance with the Islamabad Memorandum, no fees will be charged to those applying for passage for a period of 60 days, and the fees in question will be covered by the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran."
In this regard, it was noted that the Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA), established by Iran to oversee passages through the Strait of Hormuz, has been instructed to prioritize and expedite the processing of applications in order to achieve the goals set out in the memorandum of understanding.
The statement added, "Due to the special conditions along the transit route and certain existing security risks, as well as to ensure safe maritime traffic and prevent maritime accidents, ships are required to navigate in accordance with the routes and timings notified to them. This will make it possible to gradually increase maritime traffic capacity."
It was noted that the procedures and technical details regarding passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be announced separately by the PGSA.
The statement also noted, "Necessary steps regarding other issues, including mine-clearing activities, will be taken in accordance with Article 5 of the memorandum of understanding."
