The Louvre heist
A heist took place on October 19, 2025, at the world-famous Louvre Museum, which hosts thousands of visitors every day and displays approximately 35,000 works of art.
In the morning hours, 4 thieves used a freight elevator from a truck outside the museum to break a window and enter the section known as the Apollo Gallery, where the Royal jewels are displayed. The thieves stole 9 pieces of jewelry with a total value of 88 million euros, and dropped a crown belonging to Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III, while fleeing.
The crown was found damaged outside the museum. The thieves' heist lasted 7 minutes, and they fled the scene on motorcycles. Following the robbery, the museum was temporarily closed for security reasons and began accepting visitors again 3 days later after investigations were conducted. After the heist, French authorities announced that additional security measures would be introduced to the museum by the end of the year. While the suspects who carried out the robbery were caught one by one approximately 2 weeks after the heist, the historical artifacts have not been recovered.
