Dispute erupts between Netanyahu and Gantz: Tension in the War Cabinet

It is alleged that a dispute occurred in the War Cabinet, established for Israel's attacks on Gaza following October 7, between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Benny Gantz, and cabinet member Gadi Eisenkot. Gantz has been portrayed by international media outlets as 'the name who could replace Netanyahu' and 'the prime minister's political rival.'

According to a report by Israel's state broadcaster KAN, a heated argument broke out during yesterday's meeting, with Netanyahu on one side and Gantz and Eisenkot on the other.

The report stated that during the cabinet meeting, Mossad Chief David Barnea proposed expanding the authority of the delegation tasked with negotiations to reach a hostage exchange deal with Hamas.

It was stated that after Barnea's proposal was rejected by Netanyahu, Gantz and Eisenkot opposed this, leading to a fierce argument between them.

Gantz and Eisenkot reportedly said, "These negotiations have been going on for too long and we need to finish them now. If we had made an active effort, we could be in the middle of the talks; the talks did not progress because we could not take responsibility."

Netanyahu, expressing his view, rejected the proposal for the deal, stating, "We are conducting difficult negotiations. This matter is complex. Hamas is not interested in reaching an agreement. We cannot show signs of weakness to the enemy."

NEGOTIATIONS BETWEEN HAMAS AND ISRAEL

The Israeli delegation led by Mossad Chief David Barnea, which traveled to Doha, the capital of Qatar, participated in talks with Hamas on March 18 for a new round of negotiations regarding the release of hostages in Gaza.

The Israeli press had announced that hostage exchange negotiations between Hamas and Tel Aviv had officially begun with the arrival of the Israeli delegation led by the Mossad Chief in Doha.

It was noted that Nitzan Alon, who is responsible for the file of those kidnapped and missing in the Israeli army, was also on the delegation.

In a report by Israel's Channel 12 television, it was noted that the negotiations could last approximately two weeks.
