DNA of dogs defecating on streets in Italy to be collected
A project has been launched in Italy's Bolzano region to find a solution to the problem of dog feces on the streets.
Dog owners who leave feces on the street will now be identified through DNA testing and penalized for their actions under a new decision in Italy's Bolzano region.
Paolo Zambotto, director of the municipality's veterinary department, announced that fines of up to 500 Euros will be imposed following this decision.
In the Bolzano region, it has been decided to create a DNA database to combat dog feces on the streets. Within this framework, feces left on the street by dog owners will be identified through DNA tests, and the owners will be subject to financial penalties.
With this project, in which the DNA of approximately 40 thousand dogs will be collected in a database, the identity of the owner of the feces left on the street will be determined. According to this new regulation, dog owners will be fined between 50 and 500 Euros for leaving their dog's feces on the street. Furthermore, if dog owners refuse to register their dogs in the database, they will face a fine ranging from 292 to 1048 Euros.
