Donald Trump: 'It was a biased trial'

Former US President and the Republican candidate for the presidential election scheduled for November, Donald Trump, has been found guilty by a jury on all 34 counts in the "hush money" trial.

Judge Juan Merchan, who presided over the case, set July 11, 2024, as the date for sentencing Trump after the jury announced its verdict.

Following the conclusion of the "hush money" trial, former US President Donald Trump made statements.

AN UNPRECEDENTED EVENT

In his statement, Trump expressed that an unprecedented event had occurred and that it was a biased trial.

WHAT WAS TRUMP ACCUSED OF?

Trump was accused of falsifying business records regarding a hush money payment made to keep a sexual encounter with former adult film star Stormy Daniels secret.

Daniels claimed that she had a sexual encounter with Trump and that she received 130 thousand dollars from Trump's former lawyer before the 2016 election in exchange for remaining silent about this relationship.

Prosecutors alleged that Trump had the payments made by his personal lawyer Michael Cohen, and that later, when Trump reimbursed Cohen for the hush money payments, he fraudulently recorded the transaction in his company's books as legal expenses.

Paying hush money is not illegal. However, the prosecution also alleged in its claims that the way the payment was recorded violated election law. This is because it was alleged that Trump's attempt to hide the payments made to Daniels stemmed from his desire to prevent voters from knowing about his relationship with an adult film star.

Falsifying records to cover up a crime is considered a more serious charge.

The allegations first emerged in 2018. Trump denied having any sexual encounter with Daniels.

Facing 34 counts of fraud in this case, Trump denied all the charges against him. Trump also denied having sex with Daniels.
