Egyptian media: Gaza ceasefire negotiations to conclude today
It has been reported that the negotiations being held between delegations in Cairo, Egypt, for a ceasefire and prisoner exchange in Gaza will conclude today.
In a report citing a high-level official, the Egypt-based "Al-Qahera News" television channel provided a statement on the matter.
According to the report, the unnamed official stated that the negotiations being conducted between the parties in Cairo will conclude today.
The source, who expressed that they had informed Israel that escalating tensions in Rafah would be dangerous, noted that Egypt is prepared for any scenario.
In a report yesterday citing a high-level official, the Egypt-based "Al-Qahera News" television channel had reported that delegations from Hamas, Qatar, and the US were participating in the negotiations in Cairo.
The report noted that the Qatari and US delegations were continuing their meetings with the Egyptian security delegation and the Hamas delegation, and that Egypt was continuing its efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
HAMAS HAD APPROVED THE CEASEFIRE PROPOSAL
Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh had informed Qatar and Egypt that he had approved their proposals regarding a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.
Following Hamas's announcement that it had approved the "ceasefire proposals" conveyed by Qatar and Egypt, the Israeli War Cabinet had decided to continue attacks in Rafah.
The Israeli army, in a statement on May 6, had requested the evacuation of certain neighborhoods in the east of Rafah, where forcibly displaced Palestinians had taken refuge, and announced this morning that it had launched a ground attack on the Rafah region of Gaza and seized the Gaza side of the border crossing with Egypt.
In the attacks carried out by Israel on the Gaza Strip since October 7, at least 34,789 Palestinians, including 14,944 children and 9,849 women, have been killed, and 78,204 people have been injured.
While it is reported that there are still thousands of dead under the rubble, civilian infrastructure is also being destroyed by targeting hospitals and educational institutions where the public has taken refuge.
