Eiffel Tower closed to visitors due to strike

The strike by employees at the tower, which is visited by more than 7 million people each year, coincides with the 100th anniversary of the death of Gustave Eiffel, who built the tower.

STRIKE DECISION

A spokesperson for the Paris Tower stated to AFP that the strike began ahead of collective bargaining negotiations, but did not clarify how long the employees' work stoppage would last.

A musical show to be held in memory of Gustave Eiffel, who died on December 27, 1923, will be broadcast this evening via social media and French television as it was pre-recorded. The 134-year-old Eiffel Tower, one of the most visited tourist attractions in the world, is owned by the Paris Municipality.
