Ejection seat activated while plane was on the ground, pilot lost his life

In the U.S. state of Texas, one pilot lost his life after the ejection seat system of a plane on the runway activated for an undetermined reason.

According to a statement from Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas, Captain John Robertson, a pilot instructor from the 80th Flying Training Wing, was conducting ground operations on the runway with a T-6A Texan II aircraft when the plane's ejection seat system activated for reasons yet to be determined.

INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED

Robertson, who was severely injured when the aircraft's canopy (the transparent structure covering the cockpit) and the pilot's seat ejected while the aircraft was on the ground, passed away at the hospital where he was taken.

An investigation into the incident has been launched.
