Elephant attack at festival in India: 17 injured

A total of 17 people, one of them seriously, were injured after an elephant brought to a festival in India's Kerala state attacked the crowd.

Elephant attack at festival in India: 17 injured

An elephant decorated for the Puthiyangadi Festival, held in the city of Malappuram in India's Kerala state, attacked people.

A total of 17 people were injured in the elephant attack, one of them seriously.

While the elephant, named Pakkathu Sreekuttan, was brought under control with difficulty, the injured were transported to nearby hospitals. It is not yet known why the elephant attacked the people.

In footage recorded by bystanders, the elephant was seen lifting a person into the air and throwing them to the ground.
