Emine Erdoğan meets with Malcolm X's daughter: A message of 'freedom' and 'justice'

Emine Erdoğan, who traveled to the US with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for the 79th United Nations General Assembly, held a meeting with Malcolm X's daughter, Ilyasah Shabazz. During the meeting, the two discussed issues of human rights and justice.

According to presidential sources, during the meeting held at the Turkish House (Türkevi) in New York, Emine Erdoğan told Shabazz, who attended all of her programs, that the struggle her father Malcolm X waged for freedom, equality, and justice serves as a source of inspiration for struggles against injustice all over the world.

During the meeting, it was also discussed that the struggle of Malcolm X and the human rights and justice struggle of Şule Yüksel Şenler in Turkey share similarities. The topic of conducting joint projects with the foundation established to keep Şenler's name alive was addressed.

In a post on her social media account regarding the meeting, Emine Erdoğan stated the following:

'We came together at the Turkish House with Ilyasah Shabazz, the esteemed daughter of Malcolm X, who is a symbolic figure in the history of the struggle against racism in America. We discussed the work of the Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center, which she chairs. We exchanged ideas on areas of cooperation between the center and the Şule Yüksel Şenler Foundation. I hope that two fighting spirits like Malcolm X and Şule Yüksel Şenler will continue to guide young people all over the world.'
