Erdoğan gave the order, Pakistani conjoined twins separated in Turkey: 14-hour operation

Pakistani Mirha and Minal were born in September 2023 conjoined at the head. Turkey extended a helping hand to the family, who could not find treatment opportunities for their children in their home country. The conjoined twins living in Pakistan were brought to Turkey upon the instructions of President Erdoğan and underwent surgery.

The baby girls, who have regained their health, will be able to celebrate their first birthdays side by side and separately.

Mother Nazia Parveen expressed her gratitude to President Erdoğan, all the physicians, and the healthcare staff, saying, 'I am very happy, my babies are now healthy and in good condition.'

THEY ASKED ERDOĞAN FOR HELP

President Erdoğan gave the instruction for the conjoined twins to be brought to Turkey for treatment after Prof. Dr. Noor Ul Owase Jeelani, a London-based pediatric neurosurgeon known for his operations to separate conjoined twins, reached out to him to explain the babies' condition.

The babies, who were brought to Ankara in May through an organization led by the Ministry of Health and taken under treatment at Bilkent City Hospital, were separated in a two-stage operation led by Prof. Dr. Owase Jeelani, who came from London for the surgery, along with Bilkent City Hospital pediatric neurosurgeon Assoc. Prof. Dr. Harun Demirci and plastic, reconstructive, and aesthetic surgeon Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hasan Murat Ergani.

The final stage of the life-saving operation for the twins was performed on July 19. In this 14-hour surgery, which involved 60 healthcare professionals, the twins were successfully separated from their conjoined head regions.

Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu also visited the baby girls in recent days to receive information about their health status and conveyed his best wishes to the family.
