An eruption has occurred at the Fuego Volcano in Guatemala, which is considered one of the most active volcanoes in the world. As the volcano spewed ash hundreds of meters into the air, the ash clouds reached an altitude of approximately 5 kilometers.

The seismology agency INSIVUMEH reported that there is a lava flow approximately 1.2 kilometers long around the crater of the volcano, which is located about 18 kilometers from the city center of Antigua Guatemala.

Due to the volcanic activity, more than 700 people were evacuated from their homes as a precaution.

In 2018, an eruption at the 3,763-meter-high Fuego Volcano resulted in the deaths of 215 people.

The Central American country, which is roughly the size of the U.S. state of Tennessee, is home to 37 volcanoes, though many of these are considered dormant or extinct.
