Eruption at Mount Ibu in Indonesia

An eruption has occurred at Mount Ibu in Indonesia's North Maluku province.

Following the eruption, the volcano spewed ash and smoke to a height of 5 kilometers for 5 minutes. Hendra Gunawan, head of the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation, stated, "Volcanic tremors are still intense, so there is a potential for future eruptions."

Authorities have advised local residents and tourists not to be within 5 kilometers of the volcano's crater.

ALERT LEVEL HAD BEEN RAISED TO 3

An eruption also occurred at the volcano last Friday, and the alert level was raised from 2 to 3 following the explosion. While shelters have been established in the region, no evacuation order has been issued yet.

Mount Ibu, which stands at an altitude of 1,325 meters, is located on the northwest coast of Halmahera Island.

There are 120 active volcanoes in Indonesia, a country with a population of approximately 270 million.
