EU announces: Accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina are beginning
European Council President Charles Michel has announced that a decision has been made to begin accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Michel made the statement on his X account while the EU summit was ongoing in Brussels.
Using the phrase, "Your place is in our European family," Michel shared the message, "Today's decision is a key step forward on your EU path. Now the hard work needs to continue so Bosnia and Herzegovina progresses steadily, as your people want."
Bosnia and Herzegovina submitted its membership application on February 15, 2016, and was granted candidate country status on December 15, 2022.
The European Commission had announced on March 12 that it had adopted a recommendation to begin accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
