Antonio Costa, who is on a tour of the Balkans, traveled to Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro, after visiting Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he met with President Jakov Milatovic.

Speaking at a press conference following his meeting with Milatovic, Costa said, "Montenegro is one of the best examples of the positive momentum the EU has achieved regarding enlargement."

Stating that they appreciate Montenegro's slogan of "We will be the 28th member of the EU by 2028," Costa added, "It would be wonderful if this goal were achieved even sooner."

EU Council President Antonio Costa advised Montenegro to maintain good relations with its neighbors, including those in the region that are already EU members.

Milatovic also expressed that Costa's visit is an indication of how determined Montenegro is in its EU membership process, stating, "We are proud that Montenegro is the country closest to the EU membership process. We are moving forward with confident steps on this path. Our goal is to become the next, 28th member of the EU in 2028."

Emphasizing that Montenegro could serve as an example for other countries in the EU membership process, Milatovic said, "We can be the light at the end of the tunnel. We are also proof that the enlargement process is alive."
