EU decision on illegal migrants: They will be deported

The European Union (EU) is launching a new policy to ensure the rapid deportation of illegal migrants in member states.

The details of this plan, shaped under the leadership of Germany, France, and Italy, have become clear. According to data from the European Commission, while approximately 300,000 illegal migrants enter the bloc each year, it is noted that one-third of them are Turkish. Turks have also been among the groups with the lowest asylum acceptance rates. Current figures allow for the return of only 8 to 10 percent of illegal Turkish migrants. However, the EU has tightened its rules to change this rate and accelerate deportation processes.

400,000 ILLEGAL MIGRANTS EXPECTED TO BE DEPORTED

It is estimated that there are approximately 500,000 illegal Turkish migrants who have arrived in Europe over the last decade. The number of individuals who will face new procedures for the return of those whose asylum requests have been rejected is expected to reach 400,000. The European Union aims to ensure the return of these migrants with the policy that will come into effect in June 2026.

THOSE WHO DO NOT RETURN WILL BE DEPORTED BY FORCE

Under the new regulation, illegal migrants who do not accept the return decision will be deported by force. Those whose asylum requests are rejected and who do not agree to participate in this process will be subject to a ban on entering EU member states for a long period. It was also stated that these decisions will be automatically valid across all EU countries. In other words, a deportation decision issued by one country will be enforced in other EU countries as well.

CENTERS TO BE ESTABLISHED FOR THE RETURN OF MIGRANTS

The EU plans to establish new "return centers" to facilitate the return of illegal migrants. These centers will be located in countries outside the EU, and the aim will be to prevent migrants from re-entering Europe. Although it is emphasized that human rights will be respected, these centers will be located in regions such as Africa or non-EU European countries.

THIRD-COUNTRY RESETTLEMENT PLANS CANCELLED

In previous years, the EU had planned to take steps to resettle migrants whose asylum requests were rejected in third countries. However, the European Court of Justice ruled that this method was not legal. Instead, the plan is to tighten border controls through readmission agreements and expedited deportation procedures.

TOUGHER MEASURES FOR CRIMINALS AND HIGH-RISK MIGRANTS

With the new plan, tougher penalties will be applied to migrants who have committed crimes, have a criminal record, or are linked to terrorist groups. Prison sentences will also be expanded. Additionally, some exceptions and exemptions will be provided for minors and families with children.
