EU deported the most Turkish citizens in 2025: Migration and asylum data released

The 2025 migration and asylum data from the European Union's statistical office, Eurostat, has been released. It was reported that Turkish citizens ranked first in the EU's "forced deportation" practices within its return policies. According to Eurostat data, 13,480 Turkish citizens who were issued an order to leave the EU were effectively removed from EU territory. This figure represents the highest number of actual returns by nationality.

According to Eurostat data, in 2025, orders to leave the EU were issued for 24,950 Turkish citizens. This decision is implemented as an administrative procedure requiring the individual to leave EU territory within a specified period. Eurostat evaluates the order to leave and the actual removal of the individual from the EU as separate categories.

Turkish citizens who were effectively removed from the EU were followed by citizens of Georgia, Syria, Albania, and Russia. In the same year, a total of 491,950 third-country nationals were issued orders to leave the EU. By nationality, Algeria ranked first with 45,735 people, followed by citizens of Morocco, Turkey, and Syria.

This table shows that while Algerian citizens were the group issued the most "orders to leave," Turks stood out by a wide margin in actual deportation practices. It is stated that this difference stems from bureaucratic speed and established system differences in relations with the two countries.

In the distribution of orders to leave by country, France ranked first with 137,550 people. The same decision was issued for 55,240 people in Germany and 53,700 in Spain. Throughout the year, 135,460 of those issued an order to leave were effectively sent outside the EU. According to the data, 2025 is noted as one of the most intense years for the EU's deportation policies in terms of both administrative decisions and implemented deportation procedures.
