EU's Special Representative for Cyprus Johannes Hahn has resigned
The European Union's (EU) Special Representative for Cyprus, Johannes Hahn, has resigned from his post.
The European Union's (EU) Special Representative for Cyprus, Austrian diplomat Johannes Hahn, has resigned from his post.
European Commission Spokesperson for Cohesion and Reforms Maciej Berestecki stated that "Hahn resigned from his position as Special Representative for Cyprus due to other duties he must fulfill, and that the Commission respects Hahn's decision and thanks him for his contributions to the reconciliation process over the past year."
Spokesperson Berestecki noted that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will decide on the process for appointing a new representative in the coming period.
The Greek Cypriot press reported that Hahn had notified both the Commission and the United Nations of his decision via a letter.
Hahn was appointed as the EU Special Representative for Cyprus by the EU Commission in May 2025.
