European right-wing parties gather to discuss MEGA: Will Trumpism be exported to Europe?

Patriots for Europe, which brings together numerous right-wing, populist, and far-right parties from various EU countries, gathered in Madrid on Friday to discuss the ''Make Europe Great Again'' project. At the meeting, the MEGA concept, inspired by the MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement in the US, 

The idea of MEGA was first proposed by US billionaire Elon Musk MEGA, the European version of the Trumpist ideology MAGA, was discussed by European right-wingers. 

The summit was hosted by Santiago Abascal , the leader of the Spanish far-right Vox party, who was elected leader of Patriots for Europe in Paris in November. The party announced that the purpose of the summit was to discuss and develop alternative strategies against the center-right European People's Party (EPP) and the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) groups in the European Parliament. 

The Vox party and other participants stated that they would support MEGA as a result of the meeting. Those attending the meeting emphasized that they want to "make Europe great again." 

Patriots for Europe is known as the third-largest group in the European Parliament with 86 seats. 

The group consists of parties from 13 different EU countries, including Hungary's ruling Christian Democratic People's Party, Italy's Lega party, the Freedom Party of Austria, and France's National Rally. The German far-right AfD left Patriots for Europe in 2024 after it was revealed that it planned to illegally expel immigrants who had acquired German citizenship from the country.
