European Union to provide 1,476 train tickets for Turkish youth! Applications have begun...

The European Commission has announced that it will gift tens of thousands of train tickets to young people who have turned 18 as part of the "DiscoverEU" (Discover the EU) program.

In a statement from Brussels, the number of train tickets to be offered to young people was announced as 35,500.

According to a report by DW Türkçe; to win one of these tickets, young people must have been born between July 1, 2005, and June 30, 2006, and must pass a quiz consisting of 5 questions about the European Union and one additional tie-breaker question.

Young people who win tickets will be able to travel within Europe for 30 days between July 1, 2024, and September 30, 2025. In addition to European Union countries, applications can be made from Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, and Türkiye. Young people with disabilities or health issues will be able to receive support during their travel.

A QUOTA OF 1,476 FOR TÜRKİYE

A specific quota has been allocated to each country for applications. The quota allocated to Türkiye is 1,476.

Germany received the highest quota with 6,104, while 4,946 were allocated to France, 4,364 to Italy, and 3,476 to Spain.

The countries with the lowest quotas are North Macedonia with 16, Liechtenstein with 17, and Serbia with 18.

In a statement made on the European Youth Portal, it was stated, "Young people who were selected for a DiscoverEU travel pass under any of the previous application rounds are not eligible to apply again. This will be verified at the delivery stage."

Young people from Türkiye showed great interest in the program last year; although the quota allocated to Türkiye was 1,467, there were over 21,000 applications from Türkiye.

The "Discover the EU" initiative was launched in 2018 with the aim of gifting an Interrail ticket to European Union citizens who have turned 18, thereby offering them the opportunity to get to know the European continent. According to European Commission data, more than 1 million young people have applied to win 284,000 tickets so far.
