Evacuations begin in Greece

Forest fires affecting areas across Greece have caused evacuations in various regions. The Fire Service reported that a fire that broke out in the morning hours on the island of Zakynthos between the villages of Lithakia, Agalas, and Koilomeno is spreading rapidly.

As the flames approached the Agalas and Keri regions, an evacuation warning was issued via the 112 Emergency Help Line, and homes, businesses, and hotels in these settlements were evacuated.

In the Achaea region, due to a fire that broke out in the Flogeraika area of the Erymanthos district, residents of the villages of Kamenitsa, Loukisa, Achaiko, Didacheika, Alissos, and Spalairieika were advised to move to Kato Achaia, which is considered a safe zone.

In the Gymnotopos area of Preveza, an evacuation call was issued toward Kerasona due to the fire, and the municipality has applied for the region to be declared an emergency zone.

Fires that broke out in the Chalandra area on the island of Chios led to the evacuation of the settlements of Pispilounta and Nea Potamia. While ground and air crews are making intense efforts to bring the fires under control, strong winds are complicating the intervention.
