Explosion occurs on tanker attempting to pass through Strait of Hormuz

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that an explosion occurred on a tanker south of the Strait of Hormuz and that the ship caught fire. The statement has heightened security concerns regarding maritime traffic in the region at a time when military tensions between the US and Iran persist.

In the Revolutionary Guard's announcement, it was stated that the tanker was attempting to pass through an area south of the strait described as a "mined route." It was reported that two other ships sailing in the same area turned back rapidly following the explosion.

The statement asserted that the Strait of Hormuz is under control, adding that as long as the US continues its activities in the region, the strait will remain closed and oil tankers will not be permitted to enter or exit.

The Revolutionary Guard alleged that the burning tanker and the two ships that turned back were acting in accordance with US instructions. The statement warned, "Any ship that is deceived by the US and plans to pass through the strait without coordinating with Iran will share the same fate."
