Famous actor Robert De Niro on Donald Trump: 'He's a clown'

Famous actor Robert De Niro targeted former President Donald Trump during US President Joe Biden's election campaign.

Speaking at a campaign event held just a few meters from the Supreme Court in New York, where the historic "hush money" trial against Trump is taking place, De Niro argued that when Trump first ran for office, people perceived it as a joke. The Academy Award-winning actor said,

''THESE KINDS OF CLOWNS...''

"We've forgotten the lessons of history that show us other clowns who weren't taken seriously until they became vicious dictators. But with Trump, we have a second chance, and no one is laughing anymore. It is time to stop him once and for all with our votes," he said.

Arguing that if Trump returns to the White House, Americans could see the civil liberties they take for granted evaporate and elections abolished, De Niro stated, "If he gets into the White House, I can tell you he will never leave."

De Niro added, "I love this city. I don't want to see it destroyed. Donald Trump wants to destroy not just a city, but the country. Eventually, he could even destroy the world."

De Niro continued, "We New Yorkers could tolerate him when he was just a crass, immoral real estate hustler trying to pass himself off as a big shot, a two-bit playboy trying to get his name in the papers with his lies. He's a clown. Nobody took him seriously. Now he is taken seriously."

Trump's campaign officials, meanwhile, argued that the event De Niro attended revealed the desperation of the Biden camp.

Trump's Campaign Spokesperson Jason Miller accused Biden of hiring a "washed-up" actor for his campaign.
