Farmers protest agricultural policies in Bordeaux, France

According to local media reports, nearly 150 farmers gathered with their tractors in front of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Regional Council building in the city, following a call from the farmers' union Coordination Rurale.

Protesting the government's agricultural policies, the farmers dumped manure and tires in front of the Council building.

Meanwhile, scuffles occasionally broke out between the police, who surrounded the council building with barricades, and the farmers.

The farmers demanded that the Regional Council implement an emergency aid package for them.

FARMER PROTESTS IN EUROPE

Farmers in many EU countries, primarily Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Hungary, and Greece, have been protesting recently implemented agricultural policies.

Issues being protested include the Union's agricultural policies, complex market regulations, nature restoration targets, cuts in subsidies, high energy, fuel, and fertilizer costs, restrictions on the use of fertilizers and pesticides, cheap grain products arriving from Ukraine, and water conservation measures.

Farmers also criticize the EU for "making agricultural production difficult by imposing strict rules on carbon, fertilizer, and pesticide use under the Green Deal."
