Thomas Markle, the father of Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex and wife of Britain's Prince Harry, has become the subject of allegations regarding the possession of child sexual abuse imagery. Following a report by Meghan Markle's half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., it is alleged that the imagery was found on computers and mobile phones at the home where Thomas Markle resides in the Philippines. Nicholas Ty, Undersecretary at the Philippine Department of Justice, told the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) that a task force in Cebu dedicated to combating human trafficking and child sexual abuse is "currently investigating the matter."
Philippine Secretary of the Interior Jonvic Remulla stated in a separate announcement that the national police had seized Markle's computer to conduct a comprehensive digital forensic examination. Remulla noted that "it will take a week to receive the results of the forensic examination."
Thomas Markle Jr. reported his father
According to a report by the UK-based newspaper The Sun, Thomas Markle Jr. told authorities in the Philippines that he found "hundreds, if not thousands" of images containing child sexual abuse on computers and mobile phones stored in four large boxes at his father Thomas Markle's home in Cebu.
"The reason for the distance between my father and me is to protect my children"
In an interview with the British newspaper Daily Mail, Meghan described the accusations as "vile lies." The Duchess of Sussex stated, "I am deeply shaken by the news that has emerged over the last 24 hours, and my thoughts are with all the children who may have been harmed. In 2018, a letter was sent to the Metropolitan Police and the Royal Family and Specialist Protection Unit. This letter was later shared with me. It contained concerning and disturbing allegations against my father, and I was assured that they were being investigated. Despite the distortions by some media outlets over the years, I hope it is now understandable that there is only one reason for the distance between my father and me, and my decision not to allow him to communicate with our children: to protect them. I trust that the authorities are doing the same for other families. While the scope of what is currently being uncovered is even more sickening than one could imagine, my most sincere hope is that justice is fully served and that the priority remains the safety and protection of innocent children."
"These are just a bunch of lies"
Thomas Markle denied the accusations, calling the claims "vile lies." Stating that the computers in question had not been in his possession since he and his son Thomas Markle Jr. left Rosarito, Mexico, to move to the Philippines in January 2025, Markle said, "This is nonsense. These are just a bunch of lies. This is a disgusting thing. I have no idea why Tom is trying to ruin me with these lies."
