Federal Court finds most of Trump's tariffs illegal

The Court of Appeals, which largely upheld the decision made by the U.S. Court of International Trade in May, ruled that Trump exceeded his authority under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).

However, the court rejected the portion of the ruling that would have immediately canceled the tariffs, granting the Trump administration time to file an appeal with the Supreme Court.

The decision was reached with a 7-4 vote, and the tariffs were allowed to remain in effect until October 14, taking into account the potential appeals process.

The tariffs slated for cancellation include reciprocal tariffs as well as those imposed on Canada, China, and Mexico.
