Final approval for regulation banning LGBT propaganda in Georgia
The Georgian parliament has passed a bill banning same-sex marriage, adoption by same-sex couples, gender reassignment, and LGBT propaganda.
A vote was held in the Georgian parliament for the 3rd and final reading of the law on "Family Values and Protection of Minors."
The bill banning LGBT propaganda was passed in the General Assembly with 84 "yes" votes.
SAME-SEX MARRIAGE, ADOPTION, AND SURGICAL GENDER REASSIGNMENT BANNED
With this law, "Pride March" events and the display of flags symbolizing LGBT in public spaces can be prevented. Censorship may be applied to films and books regarding the subject. Same-sex marriage, adoption by such individuals, and surgical gender reassignment will be prohibited.
The ruling Georgian Dream party states that the legal regulation is necessary to protect "traditional moral standards."
PRESIDENT REACTS
Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili has criticized the ruling party and stated that she will block the bill. However, Georgian Dream and its allies hold enough seats in parliament to override Zourabichvili's veto.
