Final results of the Kurultay election in Kazakhstan announced: Adilet Party secures majority
According to the Central Election Commission, the Adilet Party won 110 seats with 71.17 percent of the vote; five parties entered the Kurultay.
The final results of the Kurultay election held in Kazakhstan on August 23 have been announced. According to official data released by the Central Election Commission, the pro-government Adilet Party secured a majority in the new legislative body by receiving 71.17 percent of the vote.
In the election, 9.3 million out of more than 12.6 million registered voters went to the polls. With a turnout rate exceeding 74 percent, the Adilet Party won 110 seats.
According to the final results, the Auyl Party won 10 seats with 6.26 percent of the vote, the Respublika Party won 9 seats with 5.56 percent, the Ak Jol Party won 8 seats with 5.21 percent, and the Social Democratic Party of Kazakhstan won 8 seats with 5.11 percent.
The People's Party, which remained below the 5 percent election threshold, received 3.11 percent, while Baytaq received 1.07 percent. These two parties failed to gain representation in the Kurultay.
The new Constitution, adopted in a referendum held in Kazakhstan on March 15, replaced the bicameral parliament with a unicameral Kurultay structure. Following the entry into force of the new Constitution on July 1, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev had decided to hold the Kurultay elections on August 23.
It was also reported that Tokayev stated the Vice President would be announced within the next 10 days.
